“Hello, IONN Team! My name is Ari Levanti and I’m applying for the role of Communications Specialist. My pronouns are they/them or he/him. I’m a graphic designer, social media manager, and marketing and communications specialist based in Austin, Texas. Throughout the course of my career, I’ve had the pleasure of working with so many amazing nonprofit organizations. But the work I want to share with y’all today goes all the way back to the beginning of my career.
From 2019 to 2021, I was the design and digital engagement coordinator at The Texas Freedom Network. TFN is a historic progressive organization focusing on voter rights, reproductive justice, sexual education reform, LGBTQ+ rights, transgender rights- and they’re parent to a 501c(3) organization called Texas Rising. Texas Rising focuses on the same issues but with a youth-centered lens, appealing to an audience from the ages of 18-25. Working at both organizations at the same time, designing and writing content, and running social media for both of them was such a unique and fulfilling challenge to make sure I was appealing to each audience in the way that they needed to be appealed to while adhering to the distinct (like) messaging needs and guidelines of each one. I learned so much about civics and comms, and rapid response- especially working at these organizations in 2020. But more than anything, my work at Texas Rising stands out as some of the best work I’ve done in my
career. Providing educational content on civics that was interesting and meeting the youth where they were at, making sure that I was centering their voices and communicating on their issues and concerns in the same way that they were- was so special and so important. From branding and organizing and promoting their Advocacy Day, to making sure there was always something kind of fun on the stories amidst all the news that was going on…It was work that I really valued and took seriously and felt very honored to be let in the room for. That all being said, as an afrolatino trans person who was born, raised, and is currently living in one of the most conservative states in our country- I’m finding myself drawn towards wanting to get back into doing more mission-based, cause-based work that can help serve my communities. And that’s why I’m so excited about this opportunity. I have so many more stories from that time in my career, and forward- and I’m really looking forward to sharing more of them with y’all. Thank you so much for your time and consideration, and I hope I get to speak to you soon. “

Sex Ed is a Racial Justice Issue booklet
During my time at the Texas Freedom Network and Texas Rising, I designed and illustrated a booklet about the complicated history of Sex Education in Texas, and the steps needed to help implement effective and culturally appropriate curriculum.
After consulting with the comms team about visual direction based on their messaging, I helped edit the copy for this booklet and then got to designing. I worked collaboratively with the comms team, leadership, and even the board on 10 rounds of design. The booklet was then printed and distributed at actions around Texas during the SBOE (State Board Of Education) session.
Project Walkthrough: Texas Rising: Logo + Brand Refresh
Logo redesign for youth-focused political advocacy group: Texas Rising.
Texas Rising works to empower, educate, and engage young people under 30 in their political processes with a focus on serving communities of color. Their work covers a range of issues including LGBTQ+ rights, voting rights, and environmental justice.
A need arose in the brand for better iconography - a logo option that didn’t involve lots of words and that would read younger and
more appealing to their target audience. Something that fits the scrappy, young, and fresh vibes that Texas Rising is aiming to radiate.
Original Texas Rising Logo
My Logo Redesign
Design Process
Re-branding a historic nonprofit agency isn’t an easy task! Over the course of three months, I worked closely with leadership, creative teams, and even the board to get this re-design from concept to application! Then, work began on a suite of profile picture icons and custom assets for each chapter of Texas Rising- who is present on over 25 college campuses around Texas spreading their message of Voter Rights and Advocacy.
